The Latin root for pilgrim refers to “one who travels through the land.” Pilgrims are not from the land they presently live in; they are passing through. However, they are wayfarers, not wanderers. Pilgrims travel with purpose, with their eyes on a distant land.
A lone oak towering year after year over fields and paths offers both a landmark and a respite to dusty pilgrims. In the shade of its boughs, pilgrims can nestle among the roots and swap stories and knowledge with other travelers–places to eat and sleep, the best views to seek, hazards to avoid, and songs for the journey ahead.
We hope this site will serve as a kind of digital oak, a place to pause, to share experiences, and to celebrate the joys and beauties of slowly traveling through this world of grandeur. We don’t claim to be authorities in any area. We are simply travelers sharing our love of food, culture, and the journey.
This site may entertain and inform you, but we hope that most of all it will leave you refreshed and inspired. All of us may have different origins, paths, and destinations, but we can have a shared moment swapping stories and experiences as pilgrims under the oak.
